You need task lighting for the grill, stair lights for stairs, and some ambient lighting like wall sconces. But don't overdo it, you don't want to kill the feeling of being outside at night. Then there is lighting for nearby plants or trees. You may want to light some trees further on. In some settings, it can be spooky when it feels like this great darkness is beyond.
Use the stakes in your yard to light the path from your gate to the entrance of your house, serving as a guide to move in the dark of night.
You can also use outdoor wall lights to create a pleasant atmosphere outside your home. Or you can use reflectors or blimps to illuminate the plants, flowers or trees in your garden or patio to create a magazine effect.
